black train on rail and showing smoke

The American Railway

What a find I found yesterday at the Kalamazoo Public Library Friends Bookstore.

The American Railway book is a book about the making of the railroad, the construction, development, management and appliances. It is the type of book I have been looking for for a long time.

Years ago, I started writing a romance about a man who worked to construct a railroad in Kentucky. I had no clue as to how the railroad was built. So now, with this book in hand, I’ll be able to pick up where I left off in the story and hopefully complete it. The novel is loosely based on how my grandmother and grandfather met.

After I finish the novels I am currently working on, I may turn back to the one about the building of the railway in Kentucky. I started writing that book to entertain my mother. She was a fan of Grace Livingston Hill’s novels and had read all of them. She needed something else to read, so I started a novel for her. I told her that I had written over twenty thousand words and hadn’t said a thing. She laughed. I never finished the novel before she died. At the time, my writing skills were subpar. I had the desire to write just not a lot of know how. Now that I attend writers groups, seminars and conferences on writing, my skills have increased.

Last year I published my first Christian historical romance novel, Second Chance at Happiness. It is available to purchase on Amazon. The publisher is Ambassador International.

The second book in the three book series is called The Rejected Mail-Order Bride. It will be published April 24, 2024. The third book is called A Christmas Bride for the Sheriff. I’m still working on it and hope to have it published sometime in 2025.
